An indie film by US-based Filipino filmmaker Vincent Sandoval was shot on location in Angono between March 28 to April 20, 2012. The movie trailer shows forest like environment with monastery setting which could either be at the Loyola Retreat House or the Vincentian Hills Seminary.

"‘Aparisyon’ is the second feature film of US-based filmmaker Vincent Sandoval. The movie won a grant from the Cultural Center of the Philippines. The non-profit arts service organization Fractured Atlas, sponsored the making of this project.
The film was shot in Angono, Rizal. ‘Aparisyon’ is focus on the emotional aftermath of the cloistered nuns as they grapple and unravel with such incident.

MANILA, July 6, 2012—A movement for Pedro Calungsod plans to launch a monthly themed celebrations in view of promoting the upcoming canonization of the 2nd Filipino Saint.

Clarke Nebrao of +Big Movement said to effectively promote the 2nd Filipino saint, “we need to be consistent by doing plus big event for Pedro.”

“So we start with the ‘big move’ this July which will start the countdown of the 100 days of Pedro Calungsod with the tagline ‘Big Move: 100 days to Pedro’s canonization’ that will be launched during the 1st Catholic Social Media Summit on July 14 and 15,” Nebrao said.

August is the “big dare”, an activity that will dare our fellow Filipinos especially the youth, not only here in the country but also all over the world to embrace the virtues and the life of Pedro Calungsod.

Nebrao said that during this month, doing small acts of goodness for others will be the main values to be applied because these will have lasting effect to others.

September would be the “big push”, with activities ranging from musical concert for Pedro Calungsod to releasing of coffee book table, painting of the Saint as interpreted by Angono artists or famous artists in the country and a mission album.

I had never heard of the Angono Petroglyph in Binangonan, Rizal before. I learned about the site from a travel blog. With the limited directions available online, I was not surprised that only a few people knew of the place. But this also meant that it was a good place for birds!

My first visit to the site gave me an impression that it might be a good place for hiking. On my second visit, I was told that there were some owls in the area. It was during my third visit that I actually saw an owl in the wild for the first time. The owl was easy to identify because I had seen some pictures of the Philippine Eagle Owl family in Balara reported by another birder a few weeks ago. This owl seemed cooperative enough while I was taking shot after shot with my digiscope setup. It even stared at me as if to say “Go ahead, take your best shot!” or probably just gauging whether or not I was a threat."

 "Oh, to be so loved by one’s students that they would remember, not the drudgery of writing and learning, but the memorable experiences deliberately planned for them, all to be used as material for writing. She took them to trips to nearby Angono for its rich folk and popular culture. When the first McDonald’s first opened in downtown Manila, she took her freshman class there and placed an order of 24 of the following: burgers, fries, apple pies, fizzy drinks—all to discuss, analyze, savor, and write about in a writing exercise back in the classroom. Others cannot forget being led to discover how to open a fish head and its 13 distinct flavors. Another one said he never thought he was any good as a writer until she typed all his poems and photocopied them for the class to appreciate. One considers her the best single teacher he ever had. “She was our excuse to gush,” another one said unabashedly."

Ang una ay para kay Botong na maglalaman ng reproduksyon ng  lahat ng kanyang obra maestra. Sa mga naglalakihang murals na gawa ni Botong ay tunay na magiging higante ang museo na ito. MANILA, Philippines – Filipino boxing champion Sonny Boy Jaro finally received his The RING flyweight belt months after his sixth-round technical knockout victory over Thai boxing legend Pongsaklek Wonjongkam.

Jaro, who also owns the World Boxing Council (WBC) flyweight crown, was handed the RING belt at the Angono Municipal Gymnasium in Rizal, according to RingTV.

 "MANILA, Philippines -- "Bizarre Foods" host Andrew Zimmern is predicting Filipino cuisine to be the next big thing among American diners.

Zimmern made the prediction an interview with the website of the US morning show "Today," which was published on Tuesday.

“I predict, two years from now, Filipino food will be what we will have been talking about for six months … I think that’s going to be the next big thing,” he told Today.com.

“I want to go on record — this is not something that’s hot now somewhere and will get hot everywhere else,” he said. “It’s just starting. I think it’s going to take another year and a half to get up to critical mass, but everybody loves Chinese food, Thai food, Japanese food, and it’s all been exploited."

"The Filipinos combined the best of all of that with Spanish technique. The Spanish were a colonial power there for 500 years, and they left behind adobo and cooking in vinegar — techniques that, applied to those tropical Asian ingredients, are miraculous,” he told the website."

The family that creates art together stays together.

 

The renowned Blanco family from Angono, Rizal are the featured artists at the Philippine Center in New York for Philippine Independence Month, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Thursday.

 

The Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in New York and the Philippine Center Management Board (PCMB) jointly organized the exhibit by the Blanco family from June 3 to 15.

 

Dubbed "Art by the Blanco Family," the exhibit is "part of this year's celebration of the 114th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence," the DFA said in a news release. 

 

The works exhibited were made by the second and third generations of the Blanco family, all taught by their late patriarch and Filipino master Jose Blanco: Glen, Noel, Michael, Joy, John, Gay, and Peter Paul and their children.

 

The DFA said the Blanco family is best known for a folk realism style, depicting the so-called "Tagalog Pastorale."

 

Many of the subjects of their works are based on the flora and fauna as well as the rituals of rural life in their hometown of Angono, Rizal.

Ang kakayahan at galing ng mga taga-Angono ay hindi lang sa larangan ng sining kundi maging sa makabagong teknolohiya ng Internet.  
Sa dami ng mga artists sa Angono, di kaya dapat ay pagtuunan din ng pansin ang pagpapaunlad sa sining gamit ang makabagong teknolohiya, tulad ng graphic arts and design.

"RJ David dreamed of inventing something that can be used by many people. His wife, Arianne, wanted a business. Together, they established an online classified advertising site that got them what they both fancied—and more.

Sulit.com.ph (sulit is Tagalog for “worth it” or something that measured up to expectations) was created and launched in RJ’s bed room in 2006. It did not take long before the venture got him into a boardroom.

RJ and Arianne, his girlfriend then, started with an experimental website to test what product will bring the heaviest traffic.

RJ said he spent P2,400 to put up the website, P1,800 of which was used to pay for the domain name and P600 for the hosting.

“What we poured in was time and effort, not much in terms of money was needed,” RJ said.

RJ said the first few months of operating the site was difficult, with Arianne and him alternating for a morning and night shifts to maintain and oversee it.

Their first office, he said, was the terrace of his parents’ house in Angono, Rizal."

Do we see moratorium on conversion of remaining forest area in Rizal Province into residential area or golf courses? or a need to map out government owned lots that needs reforestation.

We should act now before its too late.
